However, there are currently very few resources available for non-specialists to understand the contemporary art market in China, and the prevalence of speculation in the market during the bubble has created some potentially harmful precedents.
CDP’s aim is to form an alliance with like-minded people and organizations that want to create resources for new collectors to enter the market in a fun and interesting way. For a new generation of collectors emerge, there needs to be a mechanism of support, inspiration, and networking to bring them into a community of like-minded people all across Asia and beyond.
CDP works all year round with individuals, organizations, and corporations who want to help the development of new collectors in China to provide an exciting programme of events in China and tours around the world.
CDP was officially announced a gala dinner for over 260 collectors from all across China, Asia, US, and Europe at ShContemporary 09. Only two months into existence, CDP attracted an extra 200 new collectors from around China to ShContemporary 09.
Based in China, we aim to bring make our programme available as a platform for all collectors across Asia.
CDP’s 1st premier art tour took a group of Asian art collectors to Barcelona and Bologna from January 25th-30th. The group visited MACBA, leading galleries, and were also welcomed by two prominent Barcelonian collectors in their homes; then went to Bologna for Italy’s most established contemporary art fair, Arte Fiera.
10th Sep, 2009, the Launch Dinner of CDP
A magnificent Gala Dinner presented by The Singapore FreePort at which nearly 300 collectors participated. During the dinner, an award was presented to the Best Young Artists in ShContemporary 09. The three winning artists are Shi Qing, Shinji Ohmaki and Aiko Miyanaga. The winners can participate in an Artist in Residence Scheme starting with the Lasalle College of the Arts in Singapore.
9th-13th Sep, 2009, Guided Tour during ShContemporary 09
In understanding the individual interests and potential of collectors who are associated with the Collector Development Programme, we created customized tours at ShContemporary 09 whereby we took the right collectors to the right galleries. We had organized art tours for the VIPs of Minsheng Bank Private Banking, China Merchants Bank Infinite Card center, China Merchants Bank Beijing Branch – Private Banking, Citi Bank Shanghai Branch – Private Banking, and the others.

As one of the CDP partners, Artron organized its forum during ShContemporary 09. The forum comprises a series of lectures on artwork market and aims to help those new collectors and art amateurs to explore their fortune potential and enjoy a better life brought by art.
